| “Kamejikan” is a guest house located in old Kamakura area. The building is 87 years old and originally built as a residence for a wealthy family. It was renovated into a guest house in April 2011. The carpenter who built the building specialized in temples and shrines which reflects throughout the building with similar characteristics including a large shrine inside.
The guest house was named “Kamejikan” which means “turtle time” in Japanese. The name was given in hopes that the guests would spend relaxing times here and remember the slow flow time in the old days. You would enjoy staying at the traditional Japanese wooden architecture. Zaimokuza area developed in 13th century as a main port in the Kamakura period, though only the ruins of the port could be seen from the Zaimokuza beach nowadays. The streets have a laid back feeling and you could find an atmosphere of days past. The guest house is next to Kuhon-ji temple and close to Komyo-ji temple which has the second biggest entrance gate among the temples in Kamakura. When visiting the temple, you could try Buddhist sutra writing, Buddha drawing and vegetarian lunch is also offered (reservation required 3days before). Our guest house is just 250 meters away from the beach where a nice walk can be enjoyed in the morning as well as marine activity like surfing and swimming in the summer. We welcome you to visit us at “kamejikan”.
Please note that towels and nightwear are not included in the price,as the accommodation fees of Kamejikan are set low. The building is a renovated old wooden Japanese house and the room temperature might be hot in the summer and cold in the winter.Hope you enjoy the old way of Japanese life. |
